To Bear False Witness

Hi,

Proverbs 19:5 NIV
[5] A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not go free.

Exodus 20:16 NIV

[16] “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

Ephesians 4:15 NIV

[15] Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

Unfortunately there are those (Christians and non-christians) who aren't happy unless they're stirring the pot. The old saying is "misery loves company". I don't always think it's because they're miserable. Sometimes, people are just ugly. The Bible tells us that we can tell the condition of someone's heart by their fruit. Well, it doesn't paint a pretty picture when they're consistently causing problems.

Bearing false witness against others is one of the ways trouble gets started. Things seem to be going peacefully and then the ugliness pops out. When someone tells a lie about you or miss leads others about you, show what God has placed in your heart. Bear good fruit.

If you were making a pie and came across a bad apple, you would discard it. You wouldn't hunt for another rotten fruit to add to the pie. Why then as His children, do we find the need to become like our persecutors? It doesn't fix the problem, it just makes it worse. We're called to a higher standard. Jesus expects us to respond in a Christ like manner. I know this isn't always easy, but it's a must if we want to grow in Christ.
