Forgiveness isn't something that's always easy but it's necessary as a child of God. You wouldn't intentionally hurt someone then turn around and ask them for a favor. To hold out forgiveness on someone is the same thing, because we're hurting our walk with God.
Mark 11:25 - And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
We MUST forgive others, if we expect to be forgiven. You know, how rude is it to say "Father forgive me" yet "I can't forgive them"? We want what we're not willing to give. How many times should we forgive?
Matthew 18:21-22 - Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.
That's a lot right, well there's one thing... God doesn't put a limit on how many times He will forgive us!
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Forgiveness doesn't only free the person you're holding in bondage, it frees you. Holding out forgiveness on others can drive a bitter wedge between us and our relationship with God. It can effect our testimony and our worship. Release the bonds, so your Heavenly Father can release you!
