Confirmation: The Sword
There are several times in the Bible when the Old Testament and the New Testament confirm each other. This is one of those times.
Psalms 149:6
[6]Let the high prai
ses of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;
Hebrews 4:12
[12]For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
So psalms is talking about having a two edged sword in your hand while praising God. Hebrews compares the Bible to a two edged sword.
Let's see, so it would seem that we should praise God while having His word in our hand. Wow, that's great! Think about it, what better way to praise Him then while holding on to His word.
We can also look at this as, while praising Him and holding His word, we have the best weapon possible. If we're holding His word, we're holding something sharper then a two edged sword. If we're praising Him at the same time, we're calling on our most powerful Omnipotent Lord and Savior. How wonderful is that? As we go through this weekend, let's try to remember that we have so much power and protection within reach.
