Good afternoon,
James 4:5-10
[5]Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
[6]But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
[7]Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
[8]Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
[9]Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
[10]Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Recognition of the self life :
Signs of God resisting the proud: He goes to war against the self life
1)When God refuses to speak to you
2)He ridicules our schemes
3) He will ruin our successes
4) He removes our status
(The above are notes from Br Joe Youngblood's message Sunday)
To explain, I was very moved by this message, as were my family members that were there. I often use my pastor's (Br Rick West) messages as inspiration when the spirit moves me to. When we get stuck in self mode and are ignoring God's will, He will stop speaking to us. He will also put a stop to our scheming and plotting. God will take our ill-gotten successes away. He may even remove our status.
God isn't going to allow His children to succeed when they're not in His will. He won't allow us to remain in an influential position either. He cares about the effect we have on His other children and those who aren't yet His.
Staying in "self mode" can ruin our witness and our production of fruit. Do you spend time in self pity, blaming others for how unsatisfied you are? Do you take for granted what God has blessed you with? Do you know what God wants for you and still do what you want? Are you allowing worldy things or addictions to come first? Have you spent most of your time lately pouting about how bad your life is? This is "self mode". As long as you're focused on you with an "I complex', you can't be focused on God. He wants to bless you, give you joy and happiness. However, He won't as long as you are stuck. Turn your eyes to Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of life will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace!
